MSFAA Advocacy Positions

The MSFAA Legislative Issues Committee is currently developing advocacy materials for members. These documents begins with membership (which has representation from all MSFAA Sectors) and works it way through the committee. Committee chairs share the document to the MFSAA Board for Approval. These documents should be updated annual - however, updates can happen at any point depending on the regulations, laws, and guidance received.

2025-2026 Talking Points:

  • Permanent funding of the Michigan Achievement Scholarship across all sectors is critical to ensuring an affordable pathway to higher education, which works to attain the Governor's 60 by 2030 goal.
  • Michigan's economy needs both skilled trades and four-year degrees. There needs to be continued focus on increased funding either for transfer pathways to four-year institutions, or on having a universal K - 14 free education, no matter the institution a student decides to attend.
  • Continued streamlining of legislation to use data already available to the State to reduce administrative burden on colleges and universities.
  • Continued investment in Michigan Reconnect, including eligibility expansion for ages 21-24
  • Provide dedicated state funding to colleges and universities to strengthen ID theft and financial aid fraud detection and prevention efforts, ensuring institutions have the staffing, technology, and training needed to protect students, taxpayer dollars, and state aid programs
